NPP demands apology from govt over ‘dumsor’

The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has urged the government to apologise to Ghanaians over recent power outages, accusing the administration of failing to resolve the country’s energy challenges.

His remarks come in response to intermittent electricity cuts reported in parts of Ghana in recent weeks, despite assurances of a stable power supply.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Saturday, May 2, he criticised the handling of the energy sector, claiming that the current administration has failed to build on policies inherited from the previous government, thereby affecting progress in the sector.

He argued that the government should admit shortcomings and apologise to citizens, insisting that earlier promises to fix the energy situation have not been fulfilled.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Energy, John Abdulai Jinapor, has confirmed that full power generation has been restored following disruptions linked to a fire at the Ghana Grid Company Limited substation at Akosombo.

The incident resulted in the loss of over 1,000 megawatts of power and led to outages in several parts of the country before supply was stabilised.
