Government lifts Karaga curfew as security situation stabilises
The government has removed the curfew previously imposed on Karaga and nearby communities following significant improvements in security conditions.
In a statement released on Thursday, April 30, 2026, the Minister for the Interior indicated that the decision was made based on recommendations from the National Security Council and implemented through an Executive Instrument.
The curfew, which had restricted movement from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., was introduced earlier to help contain tensions and restore calm in the area. Authorities now say the situation has stabilised, making it possible to lift the restriction with immediate effect.
Even with the curfew lifted, residents have been urged to remain cautious and uphold peace. Chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and the youth have been specifically encouraged to act responsibly and resolve any remaining disputes through non-violent means.
However, certain security measures remain in force. The government has upheld a ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons within the area, warning that offenders will face arrest and prosecution.
The curfew was part of broader interventions aimed at preventing the escalation of conflict in the district.
