New Patriotic Party Announces Reorganisation Plan and Filing Fees Ahead of 2026 Internal Elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has unveiled its reorganisation roadmap, outlining timelines and filing fees for aspirants seeking various internal positions ahead of the party’s 2026 internal elections.

At a press briefing, the party’s General Secretary explained that the exercise is aimed at strengthening internal structures, promoting unity, and boosting grassroots participation as preparations begin for upcoming national elections.

Filing Fees for Aspirants

The party disclosed that nomination forms for national executive roles will attract GHS50,000 for the chairmanship position, GHS30,000 for vice chairmanship, and GHS25,000 for General Secretary. All other national positions will cost GHS10,000.

At the regional level, chairmanship forms are priced at GHS10,000, vice chairmanship at GHS8,000, and other positions at GHS5,000. Constituency-level positions will range between GHS500 and GHS1,500, while polling station and electoral area roles are set at GHS10 and GHS50 respectively.

The party also announced a 50 percent reduction in filing fees for youth organisers, women organisers, and persons with disabilities. Additionally, aspirants for constituency secretary positions must hold at least a diploma qualification.

Election Structure and Timeline

The reorganisation process will begin with a membership drive from March 1 to March 31, 2026, followed by a verification exercise from April 1 to April 14.

Polling station elections are scheduled for May 10 to May 16, with subsequent elections at the electoral area, constituency, regional, and national levels continuing through September 2026. National executive elections are expected to take place between September 18 and September 20.

The party also indicated that elections for external branches and chapters will be held between June and August 2026.

Polling Station Election Guidelines

Polling station elections will be supervised by a three-member committee appointed by the party’s Central Executive Committee. Eligible supervisors will include senior party members, former executives, Assembly Members, former MMDCEs, MPs, parliamentary candidates, and opinion leaders.

Voting will take place at designated polling stations from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with candidates required to be nominated and seconded by registered members. All registered party members at the polling station level will be eligible to vote, with elections conducted either by ballot or headcount.

Strengthening Party Structures

Party officials say the reorganisation is intended to address internal challenges, improve coordination, and position the party for future electoral success. They added that data gathered during the process will be verified at constituency and regional levels and integrated into the party’s database to ensure transparency.
