Mustapha Hamid Declares Bid for NPP National Vice Chairman Position
Former NPA CEO Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has announced his intention to contest for the National Vice Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party.
Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has officially announced his intention to contest for the National Vice Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) once nominations are opened.
In a press statement addressed to party supporters, Dr. Abdul-Hamid said his decision followed repeated appeals from members of the party urging him to contribute his experience and institutional knowledge to rebuilding the NPP.
He described the encouragement as a call to service, explaining that he carefully reflected on the request before deciding to step forward. According to him, his ambition is motivated by a desire to give back to the party that has shaped his political career rather than personal gain.
Dr. Abdul-Hamid traced his involvement in the party to its early years, noting that he was a founding member of the University of Cape Coast NPP Branch in 1992. He also recalled being present at Victoria Park during the symbolic transition from the Danquah-Busia Club to the NPP on May 18, 1992.
Over the years, he has contested for several key party positions, including National Organiser in 2001 and General Secretary in 2005, though he did not succeed in either race. Despite those setbacks, he emphasised his continued commitment to the party.
He further highlighted his service as spokesperson to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for about a decade and later his role as Deputy National Campaign Manager during the 2020 general elections.
