“If Mahama Got a Second Chance, Bawumia’s Time Will Come in 2028” — Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has expressed confidence in the political future of former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, stating that his opportunity to lead Ghana will come in the 2028 general elections.

According to Afenyo-Markin, political leadership often comes with moments of setbacks and comebacks, drawing comparisons with President John Dramani Mahama, who returned to power after previously losing an election.

“If God gave President Mahama a second chance, then Dr. Bawumia’s chance will come in 2028,” he said while addressing party supporters during a political engagement.

The lawmaker emphasized that perseverance and patience remain key elements in politics, urging members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain united and focused despite electoral challenges.

He noted that political history in Ghana demonstrates that electoral defeat does not mark the end of a political career, but rather provides an opportunity for reflection, reorganization, and renewed strategy.

Afenyo-Markin’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions within the NPP about rebuilding and preparing for future elections following recent political developments. Analysts say such statements are aimed at maintaining morale among party supporters while positioning Dr. Bawumia as a key figure for the party’s long-term electoral ambitions.

The comments have since generated reactions across political circles, with supporters viewing them as a message of hope and continuity for the party’s future leadership prospects.
