Government Will Complete 35 Agenda 111 Hospitals This Year - President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government will focus on completing 35 hospitals under the Agenda 111 initiative this year as part of a new phased approach to the project.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Northern Regional House of Chiefs on Friday, May 15, the President expressed concern about the original strategy of attempting to construct all 111 hospitals at the same time without adequate sequencing and implementation planning.

According to him, the approach led to several projects stalling at various stages of completion, while some contractors allegedly abandoned their sites after receiving mobilisation payments.

President Mahama stated that the government is now taking steps to ensure accountability and recover funds from contractors who failed to complete their assigned projects.

He explained that the government intends to allocate funding this year to continue work on selected hospitals and ensure their completion, while future budgets will make provisions for additional batches of projects to be completed gradually.

The President also disclosed that discussions are ongoing with faith-based organisations and private healthcare operators to adopt some of the hospital projects and assist with their completion and management.

According to him, this collaboration is intended to improve healthcare access across the country while easing the financial burden on the state.

President Mahama stressed that the revised implementation strategy is part of a broader effort to ensure value for money in public infrastructure spending, particularly within the health sector.

He added that the government aims to prevent the continued accumulation of abandoned or incomplete projects that consume public resources without providing services to communities.
