Big Push Initiative Focused on National Development, Not Politics — Minister for Roads and Highways

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has urged Ghanaians to support the government’s “Big Push” infrastructure programme, insisting that the initiative is intended to address the country’s infrastructure challenges rather than serve political interests.

Speaking during a road inspection tour on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Mr Agbodza stated that the projects being undertaken under the initiative are essential for improving transportation networks, stimulating economic growth, and improving living conditions across the country.

According to him, the government remains committed to speeding up the completion of major road projects despite the current economic difficulties facing the country.

The minister stressed that the projects are long overdue and should not be viewed through a political lens, adding that the government is simply fulfilling critical development needs that should have been addressed earlier.

Mr Agbodza also commended contractors working on the projects for their dedication and determination to meet project deadlines, noting that some have extended their working hours to ensure steady progress on site.

He expressed confidence that the “Big Push” programme would be successfully delivered because of the commitment being demonstrated by both contractors and government.

The Roads Minister further pointed to the government’s ability to pay contractors without taking on additional borrowing as proof of its determination to sustain infrastructure development nationwide.

According to him, a significant portion of outstanding payments owed to contractors has already been settled, helping to strengthen confidence in ongoing road projects across the country.

Mr Agbodza concluded by calling on contractors, consultants, and the general public to support the initiative to ensure the successful completion of critical infrastructure projects nationwide.
