I Won Fairly – Baba Jamal Rejects Vote-Buying Claims in Ayawaso East Primary
Ayawaso East MP-elect Baba Jamal has dismissed allegations of vote buying during the NDC parliamentary primary, insisting his victory was genuine and pledging full cooperation with the party’s investigation.
The newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal, has firmly denied allegations of vote buying during the party’s primary held last Saturday, insisting that his victory was clean and legitimate.
Speaking after the NDC set up a committee to probe claims of inducement and irregularities, Baba Jamal said he had nothing to hide and was fully prepared to cooperate with the investigative process to clear his name.
The NDC, in a statement signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey on Saturday, February 7, announced the formation of a three-member committee to investigate reports of widespread vote buying during the primary. The committee has been tasked to submit its findings by Tuesday, February 10, 2026, and may recommend sanctions if wrongdoing is established.
Addressing the issue in an interview with TV3’s Armstrong Gold Alorgbor on Monday, February 9, Baba Jamal confirmed that he had been invited to appear before the committee.
“I have been asked to meet the committee later today, and I will make myself available for any investigation,” he said. “We want our names cleared so that confidence in the system is restored. We have nothing to hide, and we will cooperate fully.”
He also appealed to his supporters to remain calm and allow the party’s internal processes to run their course.
“I am grateful to my supporters, but I want everyone to stay calm. Let the party do what it is supposed to do. I am confident because I have not done anything wrong, and I believe I earned a genuine victory,” he stated.
Responding specifically to allegations that items such as television sets were distributed to delegates, Baba Jamal dismissed the claims as unfounded and based on hearsay.
“I only heard after the election that TVs were allegedly shared. Now people are even coming to my office asking for TVs, but I don’t have any,” he said. “The people being mentioned—I know their names, but I have not even met them.”
He stressed that he had no involvement in any such activities and expressed confidence that the investigation would vindicate him.
The outcome of the committee’s work is expected to determine the party’s next steps as the NDC prepares for the Ayawaso East by-election.
