The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, in consultation with key stakeholders, has appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars.

The experienced tactician, who has previously managed clubs and national teams including Real Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal, and Iran, will oversee Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Queiroz brings significant World Cup experience to the role. He guided South Africa to qualification for the 2002 tournament, led Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.

In addition, he has coached in Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, and is expected to utilize his vast international experience to strengthen Ghana’s preparations.

He is set to begin work immediately as the Black Stars prepare for the tournament, which starts on June 11, 2026.

Ghana will open its campaign against Panama on June 17, 2026, in Toronto, Canada, before taking on England and Croatia in the remaining group fixtures.
