Don’t Be Fooled by Human Rights Arguments on LGBTQ+ Issues — Foh-Amoaning

Executive Secretary of the National Coalition for the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, Moses Foh-Amoaning, has urged African legislators to resist calls for the recognition of LGBTQ+ rights, arguing that claims linking such rights to international human rights law are misleading.

Addressing participants at the 4th Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family, Sovereignty and Values on June 4, 2026, Foh-Amoaning cautioned lawmakers against accepting arguments that LGBTQ+ rights are protected under international legal frameworks.

He contended that advocates of LGBTQ+ rights are pursuing a specific agenda and alleged that they rely on misleading narratives to advance their objectives.

According to him, references to human rights, sexual rights and constitutional rights in support of LGBTQ+ issues are not supported by international law. He maintained that conference participants should not fear that opposing LGBTQ+ rights would place them at odds with international legal obligations.

Foh-Amoaning further argued that LGBTQ+ rights were never explicitly incorporated into international legal instruments, claiming that their recognition has emerged through interpretation and external influence rather than formal legal adoption.

He urged lawmakers and policymakers attending the conference to remain focused on what he described as the protection of family values and national sovereignty, rather than yielding to external pressure.

The conference brought together parliamentarians, policymakers and advocacy groups from several countries to discuss issues relating to family values, social policy and national sovereignty.
