Ghana Offers the Right Environment for Long-Term Investment - President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has positioned Ghana as a prime destination for international investment, citing the country’s political stability, democratic maturity, strategic location, and improving economic fundamentals.

Addressing participants at the Ghana-UK Investment Summit 2026 on Monday, June 1, President Mahama revealed that annual bilateral trade between Ghana and the United Kingdom now exceeds £1.5 billion, underscoring the strength of the long-standing relationship between the two nations.

Despite the impressive trade volume, the President said there remains significant untapped potential for deeper economic cooperation.

“In that changing global landscape, Ghana offers something increasingly valuable: political stability, democratic maturity, strategic geographical access, improving macroeconomic fundamentals and a government committed to creating a transparent and investor-friendly business environment,” he stated.

President Mahama noted that shifts in the global economy are prompting businesses to diversify supply chains, seek resilient markets, and identify new destinations capable of supporting long-term growth. He argued that Ghana is well-positioned to benefit from this trend.

The President described the Ghana-UK partnership as one that has evolved beyond historical ties into a dynamic relationship built on trade, investment, innovation, education, and shared democratic values.

“Today, bilateral trade between our two countries exceeds £1.5 billion annually. But I believe this only scratches the surface of what is possible,” he said.

He encouraged investors to explore opportunities in key sectors including manufacturing, technology, infrastructure, agribusiness, renewable energy, financial services, pharmaceuticals, tourism, education, and the digital economy.

According to President Mahama, the summit should serve not merely as a networking platform but as a catalyst for long-term partnerships capable of driving job creation, innovation, industrial expansion, and shared prosperity between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
