Queiroz unavailable as Desmond Offei to lead Black Stars against Mexico

Assistant coach Desmond Offei will lead the Black Stars in Saturday’s international friendly against Mexico national football team in Puebla, following the absence of head coach Carlos Queiroz due to personal reasons.

Assistant coach Roger De Sa will also miss the match, leaving Offei fully in charge of the team.

He will be supported by goalkeepers’ trainer Daniel Gaspar and set-piece coach/video analyst Gregory De Grauwe.

Twenty-two players are currently in camp preparing for the friendly, which forms part of Ghana’s build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After the Mexico fixture, Ghana will continue preparations with friendlies against Wales national football team on June 2 and Jamaica national football team on June 10.

Coach Queiroz, who has repeatedly said that only “deserving players” will earn call-ups, has until June 1 to submit his final squad for the expanded 48-team tournament.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team and Panama national football team, as they target their first World Cup knockout appearance since the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
