Austria Thrash Ghana 5–1 in International Friendly

The Ghana national football team suffered a heavy 5–1 defeat to the Austria national football team in an international friendly on Friday, raising concerns ahead of their upcoming fixture against Germany.

Austria established control early, with Marcel Sabitzer breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute after sustained pressure from the home side. The dominance continued after the break as Michael Gregoritsch doubled the lead in the 51st minute.

Just eight minutes later, defender Stefan Posch made it 3–0, exposing major defensive lapses within the Black Stars' back line.

Ghana briefly revived hopes when captain Andre Ayew converted in the 77th minute to reduce the deficit. But Austria responded almost immediately.

Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka restored the three-goal cushion in the 79th minute, before Nicholas Selwand completed the rout with a stoppage-time strike in the 90+2 minute.

The result highlighted worrying defensive vulnerabilities for Ghana, with poor positioning and lapses in concentration punished repeatedly by the Austrian attack. Despite Ayew’s goal, the Black Stars struggled to create sustained attacking momentum.

The team will now attempt to regroup and address their weaknesses ahead of their next international test against the Germany national football team.
