Hohoe United FC banned for three seasons, relegated to Division Two

The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association has imposed sanctions on Hohoe United FC following the club’s withdrawal from the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.

According to the ruling, the club has been suspended from the Premier League and all GFA competitions until the 2029/2030 season. After serving the suspension, Hohoe United will be relegated to compete in Division Two under the Greater Accra Regional Football Association.

A statement from the GFA noted that the decision, issued on Friday, May 1, 2026, was based on the club’s unilateral withdrawal from the league during the second round of the competition, which was deemed a violation of league regulations.

The Committee found the club guilty of misconduct after it officially informed the GFA of its decision to stop participating and subsequently failed to honour its fixtures from April 1, 2026.

As part of the sanctions, all registered players of the club have been granted free agent status by the GFA’s Players’ Status Committee, allowing them to join other teams without restrictions, subject to prior transfer conditions.

The club has also been directed to refund all forms of support received from the GFA for the 2025/26 season, including financial aid and equipment.

Additionally, the ruling makes it clear that the suspension does not exempt the club from settling any outstanding financial obligations owed to the GFA or its affiliates.

Hohoe United FC has been given a three-day window from the date of notification to appeal the decision if it chooses to challenge the ruling.
