Hearts Frustrated in Goalless Draw Despite Dominance Over Bechem

Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a 0–0 draw by Bechem United in a fiercely competitive Ghana Premier League Matchday 21 clash at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon.

Hearts began brightly, winning a free kick within the opening minute and dominating the early exchanges. Their best chance came in the fifth minute when Raphael Amponsah delivered a perfect corner that met the head of Abdul Aziz Afranie, whose powerful effort rattled the upright with the Bechem goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

The Phobians pushed forward through Mawuli Wayo, Baba Adamu and Henry Boateng, while captain Oppong Afrane kept the defence organised and composed. Bechem United offered occasional threats on the counter, but goalkeeper Ali Agbasi handled all attempts comfortably.

The second half saw Hearts continue with the same intensity. Adamu’s dangerous crosses kept the visitors on edge, and Boateng came close with an audacious overhead kick that sailed just wide. Substitutes Collinson, Karikari and later Asmah injected fresh momentum as the home side chased a late winner.

Karikari’s deliveries troubled the Bechem backline, and Agbasi’s sharp interventions prevented counterattacks as Hearts kept pressing. Asmah nearly snatched the winner in stoppage time with a smart flick, but the goalkeeper produced a decisive save.

Despite consistent pressure and several promising opportunities, Hearts were unable to break the deadlock and ultimately settled for a point.

The result moves Hearts of Oak to fourth place on 36 points—level with second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars and third-placed Aduana FC.

Bechem United now sit 12th on 26 points, three points above the relegation zone.
