Government Allocates GH¢76.4 Million to Support Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup Campaign
The government of President John Dramani Mahama has approved the release of GH¢76,466,919.20 through the Ministry of Finance to support the activities of Ghana’s senior national football team, the Ghana national football team.
The funding package comprises two separate disbursements aimed at facilitating the team’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup and fulfilling outstanding financial obligations to players and officials.
A total of GH¢58,929,500.00, equivalent to US$5 million, has been released in advance to finance the Black Stars’ preparations and cover expenses related to their participation in the tournament’s group-stage matches.
According to the government, the allocation demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that the team has the necessary resources and logistical support to compete effectively on football’s biggest stage.
In addition to the preparation fund, GH¢17,537,419.20, equivalent to US$1.488 million, has been released to settle outstanding qualification bonuses owed to members of the team.
The payment forms part of an earlier agreement reached during the World Cup qualifying campaign, under which players received half of their bonuses during the qualification process, with the remaining balance to be paid upon securing qualification for the tournament.
Government officials stated that the release of the funds reflects their continued commitment to supporting the Black Stars and promoting sports development in Ghana.
The administration expressed confidence that the timely disbursement would provide financial stability and motivation for both the players and technical team, allowing them to focus fully on their performance and objectives at the tournament.
The government also appealed to Ghanaians to rally behind the national team and offer their support as the Black Stars seek to make a positive impact on the global stage.
