Miracles Aboagye Hints at Naming Senior Officials Linked to Galamsey
Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to Mahamudu Bawumia, has indicated that he will soon reveal the identities of high-ranking government figures allegedly involved in illegal mining, widely known as galamsey.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, April 29, Aboagye claimed that individuals with close ties to the current administration are actively participating in the illegal mining trade. His remarks have renewed concerns about possible political involvement in the sector.
He explained that his claims are based on what he has personally observed, describing the situation as one marked by widespread impunity. According to him, the scale of illegal mining activities and the apparent lack of enforcement suggest deeper systemic challenges.
Aboagye also raised concerns about the management of excavators brought into the country. He alleged that authorities have failed to properly account for these machines, dismissing suggestions that they are being monitored and insisting that many have been returned to operators without adequate oversight.
He warned that the environmental impact of galamsey continues to worsen, pointing to the destruction of river bodies across the country. Some rivers, he noted, have either dried up or become heavily polluted, threatening water resources and livelihoods.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator further accused the government of placing financial interests from illegal mining above the country’s long-term welfare a claim expected to heighten political tensions around efforts to combat galamsey.
“I will, in the coming days, name senior and top officials close to this government who are actively involved in galamsey. Our rivers are dying some no longer flow, while others have nearly come to a halt because of these actions,” he stated.
