"You Say I'm Not Among the Best? I Was Your Lead Counsel" - Bono Regional Minister fires back at Ali Maiga

The Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has sparked political reactions in the Dormaa West District after delivering a strong response to former Member of Parliament Ali Maiga during an “Accounting to the People” tour aimed at assessing ongoing government projects across the district.

The visit, which formed part of the Regional Coordinating Council’s efforts to monitor development progress in the Bono Region, took a political turn when the Minister addressed comments attributed to the former lawmaker regarding his standing among legal practitioners in the region.

Responding directly to the remarks, Mr. Addae Akwaboa stated that he once served as lead counsel for Mr. Maiga in a successful legal case, challenging the basis of the criticism.

“If not me, who would have you? I saved you otherwise, your own people would have rejected you,” the Minister said, insisting his legal record speaks for itself.

He further dismissed the impact of the “Yen Suro Ahunahuna” demonstration, which he said failed to attract the expected level of public participation, even on a busy market day in Sunyani.

“The so-called ‘Yen Suro Ahunahuna’ demonstration did not achieve its purpose. It failed to attract the expected public attention even on a busy market day in Sunyani,” he noted.

Despite the political exchanges, the Minister’s tour primarily focused on inspecting key infrastructure projects under the government’s Big Push development agenda. Among them was the Gambia No. 1 to Amaasu road project, a 32-kilometre stretch expected to significantly improve transportation and economic activity within the district.

According to the Minister, approximately 16 kilometres of the road have already reached about 70 percent completion, a pace he described as encouraging.

“I am impressed with the pace of work. The contractor is doing well, and this shows government’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure on time,” he stated.

Mr. Addae Akwaboa emphasized that the inspection exercise forms part of broader efforts to ensure transparency, accountability, and timely completion of development projects across the region. He reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving infrastructure to support local economic growth and enhance connectivity within the district.
