‘They predicted I’d be jailed, but I remain free after a year’ – Agyemang-Manu
Former Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu has responded to claims that he would be arrested and prosecuted by the administration of John Dramani Mahama over alleged corruption during his time in office.
In a viral video recorded during a recent campaign event, the former minister who served for more than seven years under the government of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, said he remains strong despite negative predictions about his future.
He noted that some people had predicted he would either fall seriously ill, die, or be jailed by the new government, but said none of those outcomes had happened.
According to him, nearly a year has passed since such claims were made, yet he continues to live freely.
Mr. Agyemang-Manu added that in public life, it is impossible to please everyone, explaining that even when someone acts with good intentions, others may still feel offended. However, he said that when mistakes occur, acknowledging them and apologising is important.
The former minister has previously been mentioned as one of the officials who could face possible prosecution over a contract related to the procurement of Sputnik V vaccines during the pandemic.
Reports indicate that he admitted to not seeking Cabinet approval before engaging a private intermediary in the deal to procure the vaccines intended to help Ghana manage the COVID-19 outbreak.
