No Road Contractor Owed Under Big Push Projects – Agbodza Assures

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that the government has settled all outstanding payments to contractors engaged on major road projects nationwide.

He explained that every contractor who has submitted certified work claims under both ongoing and newly introduced Big Push road initiatives has received full payment.

Mr. Agbodza made the statement on Thursday, April 23, when he joined President John Mahama to inspect progress on the Kasoa–Winneba Highway. The visit formed part of efforts to monitor construction standards, timelines, and overall progress on key infrastructure projects aimed at improving road connectivity across the country.

He further stressed that the government’s road development agenda places strong emphasis on supporting local contractors, ensuring that a substantial share of infrastructure investment benefits Ghanaian-owned firms

“As of today, every contractor who has submitted a work certificate under any Big Push project has been paid in full. The government does not owe any contractor a pesewa,” he stated.

The Roads Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to sustaining infrastructure expansion while ensuring prompt payments to contractors to prevent unnecessary project delays.

He also praised Ghanaian contractors for delivering quality work, expressing confidence in their capability to execute major road projects successfully.

“The performance of our local contractors has been encouraging. The quality of work is commendable, and we remain confident in their ability to help address the country’s road challenges,” he added.
