Duncan Amoah Criticises Office of the Special Prosecutor Officials Over Conduct
Duncan Amoah has criticised some OSP officials, accusing them of abusing authority and calling for respect for due process and better use of public funds.
Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers, Duncan Amoah, has criticised the conduct of certain officials at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), accusing them of abusing their authority during investigations.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Big Issue programme on April 18, he alleged that some individuals invited for questioning are subjected to verbal humiliation, which he described as unacceptable and inconsistent with due process.
Mr Amoah argued that although investigative bodies are empowered by law, their authority must be exercised with respect for fairness and human dignity. He stressed that suspects should be granted fair hearings and access to legal representation, with punishment applied only after lawful procedures.
He also questioned the allocation of public funds to the office, suggesting that resources could be redirected to other priority areas such as job creation and public sector salaries. According to him, governance should emphasise efficiency and better use of limited resources.
His comments come amid ongoing legal developments involving the OSP, following a ruling by the High Court in Accra, which directed the Attorney-General’s Department to take over criminal prosecutions being handled by the office. The court also awarded costs of GH₵15,000 against the OSP.
