IGP Promotes Seven Officers for Foiling Armed Robbery in Tema
The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted seven personnel from the Ghana Police Service’s Tema Regional Command following what authorities described as exceptional performance during an armed robbery response.
The promotions, announced on April 14, 2026, stem from an anti-robbery operation at Tema Community 5, where officers intervened in an attack targeting a mobile money vendor. The incident reportedly escalated into an exchange of gunfire between police and suspected robbers.
According to the police, two suspects were shot during the confrontation, and a firearm, ammunition, and other items believed to be linked to the crime were retrieved.
The officers promoted include Chief Inspector Enoch Nartey Nuer, Inspector Gershon Dekpey, Inspector Prince Asante, Sergeant Lukman Mohammed, Sergeant Eugene Kuudouru, Corporal Jerome Akator, and Lance Corporal Jonathan Sewurah.
The Police Management Board, together with the IGP, commended the officers for their professionalism and calm response under pressure. The police leadership encouraged them to view the promotions as a call to greater responsibility rather than just personal advancement.
The recognition comes as the Ghana Police Service intensifies efforts to combat armed robbery and violent crime, particularly within the Tema enclave and other commercial areas.
