Two Suspects Arrested Over Deadly Robbery Attack on Berekum Chelsea F.C. Player — Police Intensify Manhunt for Others

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with the robbery attack on members of the Berekum Chelsea F.C. team that tragically resulted in the death of one of the club’s players.

According to a police update, the suspects include the alleged gang leader and another accomplice believed to have played key roles in the violent incident. The arrests were carried out following intelligence-led operations by police teams working to track down those responsible for the attack.

During the operation, one of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries after an exchange of fire with police intelligence officers. The injured suspect has since been transported to a medical facility and is currently receiving treatment under police guard.

The robbery attack, which shocked the football community and the general public, led to the loss of a player from the Berekum-based Premier League side, sparking widespread concern about the safety of players traveling for league assignments. 

Police say investigations are ongoing and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend additional suspects believed to be connected to the crime. Authorities have assured the public that further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses.

The Ghana Police Service also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for the deceased player and enhancing security measures to protect sports teams across the country.
