Bono Regional Minister cautions cocoa farmers against opposition ‘misinformation’

The Bono Regional Minister, Hon Joseph Addae Akwaboa has advised cocoa farmers in the region to stay vigilant and not be influenced by what he described as misleading narratives from the opposition.

Speaking during his ongoing “Resettling and Accounting to the People” tour, he accused members of the minority caucus from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of attempting to paint a negative picture of the government among cocoa farmers.

He dismissed claims that the government is shortchanging farmers through cocoa pricing, insisting that such assertions are politically driven and inaccurate.

According to the Minister, during the opposition’s time in government, cocoa farmers did not receive the full value of their produce, even when global market prices were favorable.

He questioned the opposition’s current concern for farmers, arguing that it contradicts their track record while in office.

In response to the claims, he challenged farmers to test the allegations by giving a bag of cocoa to minority MPs to sell in Côte d’Ivoire—the world’s leading cocoa producer—and compare the price with what is offered in Ghana.

He said such a comparison would reveal the true state of cocoa pricing and counter what he described as propaganda.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of cocoa farmers and ensuring they receive fair and competitive prices within the global market system.
