Teacher trainees to stage nationwide protest over recruitment backlog
The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana has announced plans for a nationwide demonstration involving teacher trainees and trained teachers affected by the 2022–2024 recruitment backlog, citing limited job opportunities.
The protest is scheduled for Friday, April 24, 2026, and will be held across all Colleges of Education, with a major gathering expected in Accra.
In a statement released on Thursday, April 23, the Association’s National Secretariat explained that the demonstration is in response to the growing number of unemployed trained teachers and what it described as insufficient recruitment slots provided by authorities.
TTAG indicated that the decision was reached after extensive consultations, stressing the need for a more inclusive and responsive teacher recruitment system.
The Association also assured that all necessary security measures have been arranged in collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure a peaceful and well-organized protest.
It further noted that all 49 Colleges of Education are expected to take part, urging participants to demonstrate with discipline, unity, and a sense of urgency as they push for action on their concerns.
