MMDAs Received GH¢5bn in 2025 Compared to GH¢362m in 2024 - Local Government Minister
Ahmed Ibrahim says MMDAs received GH¢5 billion from the District Assemblies Common Fund in 2025, a sharp rise from GH¢362 million in 2024, with funds tied to key development projects.
The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has revealed that Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) received only GH¢362 million from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) during 2024.
He, however, noted a significant improvement in 2025, with a total of GH¢5 billion disbursed to assemblies nationwide. The Minister made this known while addressing the government’s Accountability Series on Monday, April 20.
Providing a breakdown of the disbursements, he explained that GH¢790,372,058.40 was released in the first quarter. This was followed by GH¢1,464,983,309.60 in the second quarter. The third quarter saw GH¢1,188,921,640.80 allocated, while the fourth quarter recorded the highest release of GH¢1,592,706,391.20.
According to the Minister, the consistent and increased funding was linked to specific development targets assigned to all MMDAs. These include the construction of at least two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, three classroom blocks, and ten boreholes in each district, alongside the completion of ongoing legacy projects.
He further disclosed that 25 percent of the Common Fund was dedicated to developing 24-hour economy model markets, in line with the government’s broader strategy to boost local economic activity and create jobs.
