NPP Faces Strategic Warning as New Regional Poll by Global InfoAnalytics Signals Declining Party Affiliation Nationwide
A newly released regional tracking poll for March 2026 by Global InfoAnalytics has raised fresh concerns about the New Patriotic Party’s nationwide support base, with analysts describing the findings as a clear signal for urgent strategic reassessment, particularly in the party’s traditional stronghold, the Ashanti Region.
According to the data, the National Democratic Congress currently leads party affiliation in several regions across the country, including areas historically considered competitive battlegrounds. Most striking is the narrowing margin between the NPP and its main political rival in the Ashanti Region, where the party has traditionally enjoyed overwhelming loyalty.
The poll indicates that 34 percent of respondents in the Ashanti Region openly identify with the NPP, compared to 30 percent for the NDC, while 23 percent align with floating voters and 10 percent remain undecided. Political observers suggest that such figures represent a significant shift from previous election cycles when the region delivered dominant margins for the NPP.
Across other regions, the NDC appears to maintain strong or growing affiliation advantages, particularly in the Central, Bono, Northern, Upper West, and Greater Accra Regions. The data also reveals a noticeable increase in floating voters nationwide, signaling a changing political landscape and heightened voter unpredictability ahead of future electoral contests.
Analysts say the findings should serve as a wake up call for the NPP to review its grassroots engagement strategy, rebuild regional structures, and reconnect with core supporters. The Ashanti Region, often described as the party’s electoral backbone, is expected to become a major focus of internal mobilization efforts moving forward.
Meanwhile, the growing proportion of undecided voters across several regions presents both a challenge and an opportunity for all political parties as Ghana’s political environment becomes increasingly competitive.
