Energy Minister announces 1,000MW power expansion plan for Kumasi
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has revealed plans by the government to add more than 1,000 megawatts of power generation capacity in Kumasi as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s energy sector and drive industrial growth.
According to the Minister, Kumasi is gradually emerging as a major centre for commerce, industry, and energy development due to its strategic location and expanding economic activities.
Speaking during an engagement in the city, Dr Jinapor noted that Kumasi is evolving into an important industrial and energy hub for the country.
He explained that the planned investment in power generation forms part of broader government efforts to improve infrastructure and support industrialisation.
The Minister also disclosed that he has made several visits to Kumasi to assess ongoing developments, stressing that significant work is being carried out in the city to advance the government’s energy and industrial agenda.
