Annoh-Dompreh files GH¢30m lawsuit against Bono Regional Minister over cocoa smuggling allegations
Frank Annoh-Dompreh has initiated legal action against Joseph Addae Akwaboa, seeking GH¢30 million in damages over claims linking him to a cocoa smuggling operation.
The lawsuit follows public allegations made by the Bono Regional Minister, who accused the Minority Chief Whip of being connected to activities involving the illegal movement of cocoa across borders. The claims were reportedly tied to investigations into smuggling operations involving cocoa sourced from Côte d’Ivoire.
In response, Annoh-Dompreh has rejected the accusations, describing them as false, damaging, and politically motivated. He argues that the statements have harmed his reputation and credibility, prompting him to seek redress through the courts.
The legal action also comes shortly after a public exchange between the two, during which the lawmaker demanded evidence to support the allegations. The minister, however, indicated readiness to defend his claims in court rather than comply with the ultimatum.
The case is expected to focus on whether the allegations were substantiated and whether they caused reputational harm to Frank Annoh-Dompreh.
This development escalates the ongoing dispute into a formal legal battle, drawing attention to broader concerns around political rhetoric, accountability, and the handling of sensitive issues within Ghana’s cocoa sector.
