Afenyo-Markin accuses Raymond Archer of centralising EOCO operations

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticised the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Organised Crime Office, Raymond Archer, accusing him of operating the anti-corruption agency in an overly centralised manner.

Speaking on Newsfile on Saturday, May 9, Afenyo-Markin claimed EOCO was increasingly functioning as a “one-man institution,” raising concerns about accountability, governance, and institutional checks within the organisation.

His comments follow the ongoing controversy surrounding the re-arrest of former National Food Buffer Stock Company CEO Abdul-Wahab Hanan and his wife, Faiza Sayyid Wuni, shortly after the Office of the Attorney-General discontinued charges against them due to what it described as fresh evidence.

The development has triggered public debate over prosecutorial powers and due process. Lawyers for the couple, led by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, alleged that they were denied access to their clients for more than 24 hours after the re-arrest.

EOCO, however, insists that all legal procedures were followed properly as investigations continue.

Afenyo-Markin warned that state institutions should not be dominated by the authority of a single individual, stressing the importance of transparency, oversight, and respect for due process in the operations of anti-corruption bodies.
