Bawumia applauds campaign team and MPs as NPP primary results near confirmation

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed heartfelt appreciation to his campaign team, supportive Members of Parliament, and party leadership following his impressive showing in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries conducted on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Addressing supporters at his campaign collation centre ahead of the Electoral Commission’s formal announcement of results, Dr. Bawumia attributed his strong performance to the dedication and hard work of those around him.

“In campaigns like this, your strength comes from your team, and I can confidently say I have been fortunate to work with an outstanding group of people,” he remarked.

He singled out his national campaign coordinators for their critical contributions, while acknowledging that many others also played key roles throughout the process.

“Everyone has given their best, and although I cannot thank each person individually right now, I will certainly do so in time,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia offered special recognition to Members of Parliament who supported his bid, describing their commitment and delivery as exceptional.

“The MPs who stood with me throughout this contest have been remarkable. They fulfilled their promises and worked tirelessly, and I am deeply grateful to all of them,” he stated.

He further commended party executives for successfully organising the primaries, and thanked the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the media for ensuring a peaceful and credible exercise.

His comments followed provisional tallies from across the country indicating a clear lead over his rivals — Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

More than 211,000 delegates participated in the nationwide voting exercise across over 300 polling stations, reflecting strong engagement in the race to choose the party’s next presidential candidate.

The Electoral Commission is expected to complete collation shortly, with official results anticipated to confirm Dr. Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer for upcoming national elections.
