Ayawaso East By-Election: Baba Jamal Draws Number One as NPP’s Baba Ali Picks Third Spot

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal, has secured the number one position on the ballot paper ahead of the March 3 polls.

His main contender, Yussif Baba Ali of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), drew number three, while Ibrahim Iddrisu of the Liberal People’s Party (LPP) picked number two.

Two independent candidates, Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Sanda and David Kannor, will occupy the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

The balloting exercise took place at the Electoral Commission’s office in the constituency on Thursday, February 12, after candidates successfully filed their nominations the previous day.

The by-election follows the passing of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure, who died in January while undergoing treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Speaking to journalists after the draw, Baba Jamal described his top ballot position as a positive sign and expressed optimism about his chances in the election.

Meanwhile, independent candidate Mohammed Umaru Sanda said he entered the race in response to appeals from constituents who believe he can effectively represent their interests.

Voters in Ayawaso East will head to the polls on March 3 to elect a new representative to Parliament.
