Minority Demands GH¢113m Refund for Unsuccessful Security Service Applicants
The Minority in Parliament has called on the Ministry of the Interior to reimburse around GH¢113 million collected from applicants who did not qualify in the recent security service recruitment exercise.
The demand follows statements by the Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, who revealed that over 105,000 applicants advanced to the medical stage, despite there being only 5,000 available positions for final enlistment. He also noted that nearly 500,000 people applied for positions in the country’s security agencies.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, March 12, 2026, the Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, accused the government of exploiting applicants and called for a thorough investigation.
“Already, we are facing national security challenges and high unemployment. Promises were made to applicants without clear conditions,” Rev Fordjour said.
He alleged that the government deliberately widened the age limit from 25 to 35 to attract more applicants, collect fees, and ultimately generate over GH¢113 million, despite knowing from the outset that only 5,000 candidates would be recruited. He further noted that technology and internet disruptions during the aptitude tests eliminated many hopeful candidates.
Rev Fordjour urged the government to refund the fees and ensure transparency in future recruitment exercises to protect applicants from financial exploitation.
