Two Armed Robbery Suspects Shot Dead After Daylight MoMo Attack in Tema

Two suspected armed robbers were shot dead by a police operations team in Tema on Monday, April 13, 2026, following a robbery at a Mobile Money outlet in Community 5.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at Aba Fosuah Plaza, where a female MoMo vendor sustained a gunshot injury to her leg while attempting to resist the attackers.

In a statement signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu of the Ghana Police Service, the suspects reportedly arrived on a motorbike. One of them approached the vendor pretending to carry out a cash-out transaction.

When the vendor reached for her phone, the suspect allegedly produced a pistol and demanded her cash bag. A struggle followed, and the rider joined in. During the confrontation, the accomplice shot the vendor in the leg, allowing them to seize the money and escape.

A patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit intercepted the suspects near the Tema General Hospital. The suspects ignored police orders to stop and fled toward the Smart Hotel area while reportedly firing at officers.

Police returned fire, injuring both suspects, who fell from their motorbike. They were transported to the Police Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy and identification.

A search conducted after the incident led to the recovery of items believed to be connected to the robbery, including GH¢11,390 suspected to be stolen cash, a 9mm pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition, three Android phones, several SIM cards, a talisman, and the victim’s Ghana Card.

The injured vendor is said to be in stable condition and receiving treatment at a medical facility.

The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining security in the area and encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
