National Petroleum Authority Sets New Price Floor as Diesel Drops by GH¢1, Petrol Sees Slight Dip
Consumers of petrol and diesel may experience modest relief in the second pricing window of April after the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) announced revised fuel price floors.
Under the new benchmarks, petrol is expected to sell at a minimum of GH¢13.27 per litre, slightly lower than the GH¢13.30 recorded in the first pricing window of April. Diesel, however, is set for a more notable reduction, with the price floor dropping to GH¢16.10 per litre from GH¢17.10.
Meanwhile, the price floor for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has increased marginally to GH¢10.79 per kilogram, up from GH¢10.71 in the previous window.
The adjustments suggest a downward trend for petrol and diesel prices, providing some relief for motorists and transport operators, while LPG prices continue to rise slightly.
Under Ghana’s petroleum pricing guidelines, the price floor represents the minimum rate at which Oil Marketing Companies and LPG Marketing Companies can sell fuel products. These floors exclude premiums charged by International Oil Trading Companies and operational margins of Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies, as well as marketers’ and dealers’ margins.
The revised pricing regime comes ahead of an anticipated government announcement on suspending selected taxes and margins in the next pricing window beginning April 16, aimed at cushioning consumers against persistent fuel price pressures.
Recent increases in fuel prices have largely been driven by global market volatility linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict, which continues to influence crude oil costs and domestic pump prices.
