President Mahama Sets Target of 15% Manufacturing Share of GDP by 2030
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his administration aims to increase the contribution of manufacturing to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to at least 15% by 2030. The initiative is part of efforts to accelerate industrial growth and create more jobs.
Speaking at the commissioning of a Calcined Clay Plant for Supacem Cement in Tema on Thursday, March 5, 2026, President Mahama said the target is central to a broader strategy for transforming the country’s industrial sector.
“My government has set an ambitious goal of raising manufacturing’s share of GDP to at least 15% by 2030. This will generate an additional half a million decent jobs for our people, and I am confident we can achieve it,” he stated.
He expressed optimism based on recent developments in Ghana’s Special Economic Zones, particularly in textile and steel manufacturing industries, which he believes will help meet the target.
President Mahama highlighted that strengthening manufacturing will not only drive economic growth but also create sustainable employment and deepen the nation’s industrial capacity in the coming years.
