NPA increases price floor for petrol, diesel declines slightly

The first pricing window of June 2026 is expected to see an upward adjustment in petrol and LPG price floors, while diesel prices are likely to decline slightly.

This follows the latest pricing outlook released by the National Petroleum Authority, which takes into account developments on the international petroleum market and prevailing domestic market conditions.

Under the new pricing window:

  • Petrol price floor has increased to GH¢15.20 per litre, up from GH¢14.60, representing a GH¢0.60 increase.
  • LPG price floor has also risen to GH¢13.48 per kilogram, compared to GH¢13.16 previously, reflecting a GH¢0.32 increase.
  • Diesel, however, is expected to see a marginal reduction, with the price floor dropping to GH¢15.49 per litre from GH¢15.81, a decrease of GH¢0.32.

The NPA explained that the price floor represents the minimum price at which petroleum products may be sold by Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs).

According to the Authority, the approved price floors do not include premiums charged by International Oil Trading Companies (IOTCs), operating margins of Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies (BIDECs), or dealer margins, as those are determined independently by the respective entities.

The adjustments come after government revised earlier fuel relief measures introduced to cushion consumers against rising global fuel prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.

Under the revised intervention:

  • The GH¢0.36 per litre subsidy on petrol has been removed.
  • The GH¢2.00 per litre diesel support has been reduced to GH¢1.07 per litre.

Government says the revised support measures will remain in place for two pricing windows and may be reviewed depending on future market developments.
