Monitor Road Contractors Closely – Agbodza Urges Ghanaians
Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has urged Ghanaians especially the youth to actively monitor road construction projects in their communities and promptly report any irregularities to authorities.
Speaking at a citizens’ engagement at Ndewura Jakpa Senior High School in the Savannah Region on Saturday, May 23, the Minister praised the growing vigilance of the public, noting that it is helping government expose substandard work and improve accountability in the delivery of national road infrastructure.
Mr. Agbodza encouraged citizens to take ownership of the projects in their communities:
“Own it. Report to us. Don’t wait and think the minister will know about it. Please let us know. You are not a nuisance. Day or night, tell us what is happening on Big Push projects in your community,” he said.
He stressed that the current administration will not tolerate shoddy work from contractors, emphasizing that improved public involvement has made it harder for construction firms to misrepresent progress or hide poor performance.
According to the Minister, residents in the Savannah Region have been actively documenting activities on project sites including the number of workers on the ground and sending real-time updates directly to President John Dramani Mahama and himself.
“Today, citizens have decided to take their mobile phones and record everything contractors are doing. They have been sending it to President Mahama and to me,” he revealed.
Mr. Agbodza added that this new level of community vigilance is strengthening oversight of government-funded road projects and ensuring contractors deliver value for money.
