Over 100 NPP Executives Petition General Secretary Over Alleged Removal of Names in Yendi Constituency

More than 100 polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, and constituency officers of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Yendi Constituency have petitioned the party’s General Secretary, demanding an immediate audit of documents submitted in the ongoing internal party reorganization exercise.

The petitioners claim that forms originally filled to confirm them as unopposed winners are not the same documents currently being relied upon by the Regional Representative during the summary process.

No Elections Held, Yet Names Missing

According to the aggrieved executives, there were no elections in several electoral areas and polling stations, as the affected officers were endorsed to contest unopposed. They maintain that:

  • Forms were properly completed
  • Submissions were made through the Electoral Area Committees
  • Their names were expected to be transferred onto the official constituency summary sheets

However, they allege that the information captured in the final summary does not reflect the original submissions, with several names missing or replaced without explanation.

Petitioners Raise Alarm Over “Arbitrary and Unfair” Process

In their petition addressed to the General Secretary in Accra, the executives expressed “deep concern and dissatisfaction” over what they describe as the unlawful removal and substitution of names, including those of sitting polling station executives.

They insisted that their endorsements followed party guidelines and were based on consensus-building among stakeholders, thus any alterations should not be done without:

  1. Consultation
  2. Due process

  3. Verification by the Electoral Area Committees

They warned that the discrepancies discovered in Yendi are eroding confidence in the internal process and risk breeding disaffection among the party’s grassroots.

Executives Demand Full Audit and Restoration of Names

The petitioners are therefore calling for:

  • A full audit of all forms as originally submitted
  • Restoration of all legitimate names forwarded by the Electoral Area Committees
  • Immediate steps to ensure sanity, transparency, and fairness in the process
  • Support to allow local committees to function effectively

Copies of the petition have also been submitted to the Northern Regional leadership of the party and the Yendi Constituency executives for urgent action.
