“My Drive Is to Serve My People” — Baba Jamal Justifies Ayawaso East Parliamentary Bid

Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria and an NDC parliamentary aspirant for Ayawaso East, has explained that his renewed bid for the constituency is inspired by a commitment to service and the need for strong leadership to tackle persistent challenges in the area.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Tuesday, January 27, he said his decision to run again stems partly from his performance in the last primary, where he placed second. He argued that there is nothing wrong with offering himself once more to help change the fortunes of his constituents.

According to him, communities such as Nima continue to grapple with serious developmental problems that require a leader with integrity, competence, and a genuine dedication to improving lives.

Baba Jamal emphasized that his ambition is not driven by personal interests but by a sense of responsibility, noting that his experience equips him to deliver meaningful progress if entrusted with the mandate.

“I am motivated by service to my people. I wanted to contest again, but not this early and not under these circumstances—someone has passed away. I am not the only one who has picked up forms. The death has occurred, but life must go on. All we can do is pray for him and choose a replacement,” he said.

His remarks come amid heightened discussions within the constituency following the death of MP Mahama Naser Toure, as the NDC prepares to elect a new parliamentary candidate.
