Labeling NPP a “Fake Party” Is Reckless – Freddie Blay Fires Back at Frimpong-Boateng

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has criticised former Environment Minister Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng for describing the governing party as a “fake party.”

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Tuesday, January 27, Blay said the remarks were highly inappropriate and offensive, especially coming from someone who still identifies himself as a member of the NPP.

He argued that the comment reflects one of the downsides of open democratic systems, which allow individuals to voice opinions even when those opinions undermine their own political organisations.

“Anyone who speaks like that is being irresponsible, particularly when he claims to be part of the party. Such comments are reckless. That is the burden of democracy—you must allow people to speak freely and even defend their rights, even when what they are saying is senseless,” Blay stated.

His comments follow Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s appearance on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, where he described the NPP as a “fake party” and expressed disillusionment with its current leadership.

Despite the backlash, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng insists he has no plans to resign from the party, even though the NPP has begun internal processes that could lead to his expulsion. He has further indicated that he will not appear before either the National Executive Committee or the Disciplinary Committee should he be invited.
