Kasoa–Winneba road project strengthens trust in local contractors - President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence in Ghanaian contractors, citing ongoing work on the Kasoa–Winneba road as proof of their ability to deliver projects that meet global standards.

After inspecting progress on the road on Thursday, April 23, he noted that the quality and pace of work demonstrate the increasing capability of local firms to undertake large-scale infrastructure developments. He added that the project reinforces trust in Ghanaian contractors to execute world-class jobs comparable to international counterparts.

The President acknowledged the inconvenience faced by road users but assured them that improvements are underway. He said his inspection revealed encouraging progress and commended the contractor for the quality of work done so far.

He also indicated that the steady pace of construction raises optimism that the road could be opened sooner than expected, possibly by the end of the year or in the first quarter of the following year.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, reiterated the government’s commitment to completing ongoing infrastructure projects. He disclosed that more than GHS12 billion has been disbursed to sustain inherited road projects, emphasizing that the administration has prioritized continuity over launching new ones.

He further revealed that efforts are being made to fast-track the Kasoa–Winneba project, with plans to complete it by December 31—three months ahead of the original March 2027 deadline.

The contractor also highlighted safety features being integrated into the project, including 15 grade-separated pedestrian crossings made up of both underpasses and overpasses, depending on location and security considerations. Work is ongoing across multiple sections, including Awutu Bereku, with teams operating simultaneously.

The Kasoa–Winneba stretch remains a vital route connecting Accra to the Central Region, and its completion is expected to reduce traffic congestion, enhance road safety, and boost economic activities along the corridor.
