Johnson Asiedu Nketia Alleges Cover-Up in Electoral Violence Report

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has rejected a report by the Ministry of the Interior stating that no evidence of violence was received in connection with a death recorded during the 2024 general elections.

Speaking to party supporters in the Awutu Senya East Constituency as part of his five-day “Thank You” tour of the Central Region, he said the Ministry’s position would not be accepted by the party.

According to him, the report “smacks of an agenda” to shield perpetrators due to personal relationships, warning that such actions undermine accountability and justice.

He stressed that punitive measures must be taken against both masterminds and perpetrators of electoral violence recorded during the 2020 and 2024 general elections to deter future occurrences.

“I have heard that someone stated that there is no evidence of the electoral violence that took place in Kasoa. We are not kids at this party. If we have all agreed that violence relating to elections is not good, we must all endeavour to stop it. We must desist from covering up issues when it comes to violence,” he said.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia maintained that the matter would continue to be pursued until those responsible are held accountable, insisting that electoral violence must not be trivialised or ignored.

He called on all stakeholders to demonstrate commitment to ending election-related violence and to uphold transparency, justice, and democratic integrity in the country.
