Baba Jamal set to be sworn in as Ayawaso East MP today
Baba Jamal, the Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso East, is scheduled to be officially sworn into office on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The ceremony will be conducted by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
Baba Jamal won the Ayawaso East by-election held on March 3, 2026, securing the parliamentary seat for the National Democratic Congress.
In a Facebook message shared on Monday, March 9, he expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and said he was honoured by the opportunity to serve the people of the constituency.
He also pledged to collaborate with residents of the area to promote development and create a better future for the community.
During the by-election, Baba Jamal received 10,884 votes, defeating his closest rival, Yusif Ali Baba of the New Patriotic Party, who obtained 4,009 votes.
Other contestants included independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda, who secured 1,885 votes, while Ibrahim Idrissu received 43 votes and Kanor David polled 104 votes.
In total, 16,928 valid votes were counted in the election, with 120 ballots rejected, bringing the total number of votes cast to 17,048.
The by-election was organised following the death of the former MP, Mahama Naser Toure, in January.
Once sworn in, Baba Jamal will officially assume his duties in Parliament as the representative for the Ayawaso East constituency.
