Investigating Baba Jamal Is Needless and Politically Motivated – Koku Anyidoho
Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has criticised the party’s decision to establish a committee to investigate alleged vote buying involving Baba Jamal, the newly elected NDC parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election.
According to Mr. Anyidoho, the move is unnecessary and risks creating avoidable tension within the party, arguing that Baba Jamal is being targeted simply because he defeated a preferred establishment candidate during the NDC’s internal primaries.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page, Anyidoho warned that the party was engaging in self-inflicted damage.
“From the outset, I cautioned my NDC not to press this self-destructive button. Now we are under unprecedented and unnecessary pressure.
Completely needless decision to investigate an individual because he was not the choice of the establishment,” he wrote.
Baba Jamal Maintains Innocence
Baba Jamal has firmly denied any wrongdoing in the primaries held last Saturday, insisting that his victory was free, fair and genuine.
Despite his concerns about the investigation, Baba Jamal has welcomed the probe and pledged full cooperation with the party’s internal processes.
NDC Sets Up Probe Committee
Earlier, the NDC constituted a three-member committee to investigate allegations of inducement and vote buying during the Ayawaso East primary.
In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, on Saturday, February 7, 2026, the NDC said the committee had until Tuesday, February 10, 2026, to submit its report.
“In line with the Party’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency and ethical political conduct, the Committee will investigate the allegations and make appropriate recommendations, including sanctions where necessary,” the statement noted.
Call for Calm
Speaking in an interview with TV3’s Armstrong Gold Alorgbor on Monday, February 9, Baba Jamal said he had been invited to appear before the committee and would fully cooperate to clear his name.
“We have nothing to hide. I will make myself available so that our names will be cleared and confidence restored in the system. I ask my supporters to remain calm and allow the party to do what it is supposed to do,” he said.
Responding to claims that items such as televisions were distributed to delegates, Baba Jamal dismissed the allegations, stating that he neither shared nor authorised the distribution of any items.
“I heard after the election that TVs were shared, but I didn’t give out any TVs. I don’t even know the people being mentioned. I have heard the names, but I have not seen them,” he stressed.
