Ayine, Afenyo-Markin to Lead Discussions at African Governance and Anti-Corruption Summit

Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine, and Minority Leader of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, are set to headline the second edition of the African Governance and Anti-Corruption Summit in Accra next week.

The event, organised by The Bright Future Alliance, a youth-led civil society organisation, is scheduled for June 16 at the British Council under the theme, *“Corporate Institutions and Public Agencies as Pillars of Accountability: Strengthening Governance Systems for Sustainable National Growth.”*

According to the organisers, the summit is designed to bring together government officials, lawmakers, diplomats, civil society groups, corporate executives and young leaders to explore practical strategies for improving accountability and strengthening governance systems across the continent.

TBFA said the participation of the Attorney General reflects the government's readiness to engage civil society organisations in efforts to promote transparency, accountability and institutional integrity.

The organisation noted that Dr. Ayine’s keynote address will focus on legal and structural reforms needed to build stronger institutions capable of resisting corruption and enhancing public trust.

The summit comes at a time when corruption and economic crimes continue to pose significant challenges to development in many African countries, often undermining public confidence in governance structures and limiting economic progress.

Organisers believe the gathering will provide an important platform for stakeholders to evaluate existing governance frameworks, exchange ideas and identify practical solutions to improve transparency and accountability.

In addition to Dr. Ayine and Afenyo-Markin, the event will feature notable speakers including Davis Ansah Opoku, Vice Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee; Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor; Beauty Emefa Narteh; Bright Ofori; and a Deputy Director of the Internal Audit Agency.

The programme will feature keynote presentations, panel discussions and interactive dialogue sessions aimed at fostering engagement between policymakers, governance experts, civil society actors and young people.

TBFA said particular emphasis will be placed on youth participation, with dedicated dialogue sessions designed to give young Africans the opportunity to engage directly with decision-makers on governance, accountability and the future development of the continent.

Panel discussions are also expected to explore reforms needed to strengthen legal frameworks, improve institutional accountability and enhance transparency within both public and private sector organisations.
