Afenyo-Markin Apologises to Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak, Withdraws Corruption Allegations
The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has retracted earlier allegations of corruption he made against the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, concerning procurement and operations within the security services.
In a formal statement, Afenyo-Markin admitted that his claims were not supported by sufficient evidence and expressed regret for making the remarks. He offered an unreserved apology to the Interior Minister, acknowledging that the allegations may have caused reputational harm and unnecessary public concern.
The Minority Leader clarified that he did not intend to impugn the integrity of the Minister or undermine public confidence in the country’s security institutions. He noted that upon further review and engagement, he found no concrete basis to sustain the accusations.
For his part, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak accepted the apology, describing it as a responsible step in upholding decorum and accountability in public discourse. He reiterated his commitment to transparency and integrity in the management of the Interior Ministry and the security agencies under his supervision.
The development is expected to ease tensions surrounding the matter and refocus attention on strengthening oversight and cooperation in Ghana’s security sector.
