NDC ‘Disappointed’ by Supreme Court Decision Reinstating NPP’s Kpandai MP – Dafeamekpor
The Supreme Court has reinstated the election of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Matthew Nyindam as Member of Parliament for Kpandai, overturning an earlier High Court ruling that had nullified his victory.
In a 4–1 majority decision, the apex court held that the High Court committed an error in law, with Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang registering a dissenting opinion.
Responding to the ruling on Wednesday, NDC MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor said the party was “grieved” by the outcome and would soon advise its parliamentary candidate on the appropriate steps to take.
“As a party, we are deeply grieved by this decision, and we will guide our candidate on the next course of action,” he told JoyNews’ Kwaku Asante.
He emphasised that the Electoral Commission’s gazette—issued through the Assembly Press and presented to Parliament—remained a crucial public document that should not be dismissed.
“That gazette was the basis on which members, including myself, were sworn in. It cannot be a document that benefits the NPP at one point, only for them to turn around and discredit it in court,” he argued.
Mr. Nyindam had petitioned the Supreme Court to exercise its supervisory jurisdiction, contending that the High Court lacked the proper authority to annul his election.
With the Supreme Court’s decision, Matthew Nyindam’s seat in Parliament has now been fully restored.
