Kpandai MP Alleges South Dayi Colleague Plotted His Removal from Parliament

Kpandai Member of Parliament, Matthew Nyindam, has alleged that South Dayi MP Rockson Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor attempted to remove him from Parliament shortly after he was sworn in.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Thursday, February 5, Nyindam said the South Dayi lawmaker directly threatened him in the parliamentary corridors only two days after his swearing-in.

“He said to me, ‘You, I’m going to get you out of this place. I’m going to get you out of this,’” Nyindam recalled, adding that he was shocked by the comment and questioned its rationale. He explained that he had previously accepted defeat in the 2020 elections, losing by about 2,000 votes, and had encouraged his supporters to remain calm.

Nyindam also alleged that after the 2020 elections, campaign materials were vandalised, adding that the NDC in Kpandai knew it had lost the 2024 elections. He claimed Dafeamekpor has consistently led a coordinated effort to undermine his parliamentary position.

“So, such a person is leading this crusade from day one up to now. If I tell you that it is deliberate, you should know that yes, from day one,” Nyindam said.

Despite the allegations, Nyindam stated that he has maintained his composure and refused to be intimidated. “I told him, look, my brother, you don’t control me. You are not my God. I have a God. You can’t change anything about me, so leave it,” he said.

Regarding their current relationship, Nyindam explained that there has been no confrontation since the Supreme Court restored his parliamentary status. “I saw him the first day he was there. He walked past, that’s it. If he greets me, I’ll respond,” he said.

Nyindam expressed disappointment at what he described as a lack of respect, noting his longer experience in Parliament and prior role as a whip. He emphasised that the position of Chief Whip should serve all members, not just party lines.

Looking ahead, Nyindam confirmed his intention to contest in the 2028 parliamentary elections. “If I have life and there is no problem, I’ll contest. My people will not even agree that I shouldn’t contest,” he said.
