‘I hold no grudge’ – Pentecost Chairman says Free Zones CEO controversy boosted his profile
The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has sought to ease tensions following the recent controversy involving the CEO of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Dr. Mavis Awusi, stating that the situation has instead increased his and the church’s visibility.
The backlash arose after Dr. Awusi responded strongly to the Chairman’s comments on the environmental destruction caused by illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
Amid the public reaction, Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff, issued an apology on behalf of Dr. Awusi during his birthday thanksgiving service at PIWC Trasacco on Sunday, April 26, describing the remarks as a misstep and appealing for calm.
Addressing the matter, Apostle Nyamekye said he holds no grudges and sees no need to escalate the issue further. He remarked that the incident has rather made him and the church more widely known.
He added that if he had been offended, he would have addressed it extensively, but instead prefers to move on, emphasizing that differing opinions on national issues should not lead to prolonged disputes.
